text40yo, here; I’ve heard of them via Loony Tunes, but I have never even seen a picture of one let alone seen them for sale (no turnips either). Closest thing I’ve seen are radishes.
Turnips are objectively more terrifying than pumpkins when carved for Halloween. That’s their main fame.

I like them. And turnips. I use them alongside potatoes for a little extra flavor and varied texture. When mashed I call them turpaters.
