No.
They’ve had 10 years of leftists explaining to them that Trump is a nazi and a child rapist. They always knew. They made their choice.
If they’ve had a genuine change of heart, I suppose that’s one thing. But most of them have not. They still believe all the same horrible shit they did before, they’ve just stopped liking Trump as much. And even if they HAVE had a change of heart, they need to atone for all the suffering they’ve caused before they can expect to be accepted on the left.
You’re acting like this person can’t possibly have put their money where their mouth is, but many of us have in fact done that. Lots of people fight fascists, often in the most literal sense. You’re just a coward.
I will the pony
Jade-colored glasses?
Yup. He’s “disavowed” Trump before, but he always goes crawling back.
No you aren’t lmao
Just say you’re a conservative and go. “Progressives” like you are such cowards. You’re so eager to slobber over politicians’ boots and make up excuses for why they can’t do anything good. I wish I could at least believe the DNC was paying you off, but I was one of you once, so I know full well you’ve just drunk the neoliberal Kool-Aid that hard. The people ready to jump down leftists’ throats with “um, ackshually, it’s physically impossible to do better than center-right austerity and authoritarianism” whenever we speak up have far more to do with why leftists have no power than any leftist “idealism.” Throughout history, it’s always been the lunatic radicals who made actual change, while the craven moderates fought them tooth and nail to preserve the intolerable status quo. Ever notice how conservatives are utterly unrestrained by all the things liberals insist are holding them back from making change? When MAGA wants something, they get it, no matter how unreasonable or flat-out absurd it is. But when the Democrats’ base demands better of them, they wring their hands and lament how gosh golly gee, they’d love to make things better, but they can’t because something something civility something something norms. If progressives fought like conservatives, we’d have fucking fully automated luxury gay space communism by now.
Remember how he ran on hope and change? How he presented himself as a progressive? Then how he failed to close Guantanamo, never even tried to codify abortion rights, didn’t bother prosecuting the Bush administration for their war crimes, did a bunch of war crimes himself, and expanded the surveillance state? Because I do.
And like the other commenter said, he completely capitulated to the Republicans when they invented some bullshit about how outgoing presidents aren’t supposed to appoint justices or whatever.
I’d say to pick something light-hearted that puts you in a good mood.
They aren’t advocating to vote against Mamdani. They’re pointing out that “blue no matter who” is almost exclusively applied to progressives who complain about establishment Dems. When it’s the other way around, establishment Dems are quick to abandon their alleged principles and sabotage progressive candidates.
Jesus. You know it’s bad when even a spineless centrist like Obama is calling them on their shit.
I’m 29. My opinion on my parents has not changed much since I was a kid. My dad has a lot of practical knowledge, but his worldview is pants-on-head stupid. My mom is a far better person than my dad, but her technical knowledge is limited.
I know I’m late to this, but I wanted to say congrats on being diagnosed and medicated!
For anyone who may be on the fence, I would definitely recommend at least giving it a try. Meds and diagnosis have made a huge difference in my life. Not everything is just fixed, unfortunately, but I do have some control over what I’m doing now, and my emotional regulation is better.
I was so disappointed with Contra’s response to the Israel/Palestine situation. Like, I understand her not wanting to make a video about it. That’s one thing. But her whole “the left shouldn’t have made anti-Zionism its primary position” thing is just appalling. Zionism is a fundamentally cruel ideology and should be fiercely opposed.
I know she’s had controversies before, but I found most of the criticisms I heard of her to be pretty foolish (e.g. “How dare she advocating voting as well as doing other things?”). Perhaps I should have made an effort to look into those controversies more.
I journal pretty much at random. I want to do it, but I struggle a lot with habit-forming (ADHD), so it’s not easy.
I tried intermittent fasting for like a year. The hunger never went away.
I went vegetarian 13 years ago. I lost a little weight in the beginning, then immediately gained it all back once I figured out what I liked. If being vegetarian makes you healthier, that’s a skill issue, considering pizza and ice cream can be vegetarian.
Seriously, though, congrats.
Shitposting is generally meant to be amusing.
I think speech that depicts a real person being abused–e.g CSEM, revenge porn–should be prohibited. Credible threats should also be illegal. Otherwise, I don’t think there should be many state-enforced restrictions on speech. I think hate speech laws are a pretty bad idea, because the people in power will inevitably use them against marginalized people. Laws intended to protect the vulnerable can easily be used to oppress them further. We’re seeing this with pro-Palestinian groups being labeled hate groups right now in the name of “protecting” people from “antisemitism.” (Antisemitism is a real problem, don’t get me wrong, but a lot of people who get prosecuted for it haven’t actually done anything except support Palestine.)
I do think that communities should enforce their own speech prohibitions, though. For example, social media platforms shouldn’t tolerate racism. Even if you think racists have a moral right to spread their racism (they shouldn’t), you have to understand that some forms of speech inherently suppress others. If you’ve got a neo-nazi screaming racial slurs at an event, obviously the people of color there will not feel safe to speak up, and their voices will not be heard. You have to decide whose speech you want to protect.
