Oh, to live in a country where THIS is the most pressing legislative priority.
I’m jealous.
It’s basically impossible to find a job in Finland right now if that makes you feel any better
Oof.
Doesn’t Finland have UBI though? They’ve also basically solved homelessness.
Yeah there’s support. But Finlands economy is really stagnant right now. Also they border Russia. And the country is politically swinging to the right like most places today
The grass is always greener lol
Fair points.
I’m not saying you’re wrong, just that unemployment means something very different in more extreme capitalist countries. :)
Oh yeah I’d rather be Finnish than American right now haha
How are you and your fellow Finns with expats? I have dreamed of learning Finnish and trying to get a visa
Expats? You mean immigrants?
They both kind of mean the same thing
No, Expats is a made-up word.
I’m not Finnish but I tried to move there a few years back. Finland is sadly quite xenophobic.
I think all the Nordic states are hard to get in to as well. Oh well.
Yeah my life dream is to live in Iceland but short of marrying someone there it’s probably never happening
All really cold countries have solved homelessness…
Come to Canada lmao

You are objectively wrong.
They have solved homelessness, minus approximately 1,000 willfully homeless people. (Though I like to think of them as Nomads.)
Suuuuuuure, which can be taken away at a moments notice, like when conscripting
Finland has unconditional housing lol
& it also has conscription
Us sharing a 1000+ km long border with russia might have something to do with that.
And even then, military service isn’t actually required, you can do a siviilipalvelus (lit. “Civilian service”) instead.

The only thing I disagree with there is they force you to cut your hair lol
Guess how much gun violence there is in Finland thanks to mandatory basic training
Gun control can do that
The first change to the law sets a minimum age for operating an e-scooter at 15.
I suppose that’s sensible, we have the same age limit for driving a moped.
personally I think this needs to be enforced in the US too because a lot of stupid ass kids end up in traffic nearly getting hit by cars without a helmet on on those E scooters cuz they’re dumb
True, they shouldn’t be allowed on the roads, but if you required an age limit of 15 for e-scooters why not e-bikes as well?
And then if you need an age limit for e-bikes why not regular bikes?
Because a kid on a regular bike can’t easily go from 0-30mph within a few seconds
Regular bikes don’t have a motor. E-bikes and e-scooters do have a motor. Some regulation on e-bikes may be needed, but regular bikes have been regulated as much as is needed. Maybe a helmet law, but even that seems unnecessary.
So what? They’re still governed to similar speeds. I have a regular bike and e-scooter, and I pass and get passed by people on both all the time.
Most people cannot ride a bike at anywhere close to the speeds that an e-bike can hit. I pass professional cycling teams daily on my e-bike because I can do 20mph. The average professional cyclist seems to struggle to maintain 15+mph. I only get passed by a normal bicycle maybe once every few months, and those guys and gals have gastrocnemius’ that are about as big as my waist. My current e-bike has just under 2500 miles on the odo, my previous one blew up at just over 11,000 miles. Oh, and technically both e-bikes could do 25 mph, that just wears out the motor in less than 1000 miles.
Love to see legal responsibility for children. Need more of it.
That’s dumb
I mean, if they fine the kid, realistically the parent is probably paying it anyway.
Good luck enforcing that shit
IDK what country you are from? But most European countries already enforce this for other types of motorized small transport like mopeds. Here (Denmark) a moped requires a license.
We also have speed restrictions on e-bikes, here it’s 25 km/h that is also enforced.I was never into it, but my brother has many stories of escaping police on his moped that could go twice as fast as the legal limit! 😋
Finland; our police force is already really overextended and generally doesn’t give a shit about small stuff like this.
It’s the same thing here, but still if there’s an accident, the parents will be fined and the scooter confiscated.
There are also periods that are less hectic than others, and then police will go for the lesser stuff.
Most police forces also have systems, where they allocate time to focus on things that are not everyday priority. My guess is that Finish police is as well organized as most other European countries.
Obviously this isn’t a high priority, but that doesn’t mean the police will just let it pass if they spot a blatant violation.if there’s an accident, the parents will be fined and the scooter confiscated.
Yeah, but that’s post hoc enforcement
Yes how would the police ever do their job. This right here is the excuse why they shouldn’t have a budget for armored vehicles tactical body armor and assault rifles. They can’t even enforce a scooter ticket. Acab.
