God has His own endorsed criteria. If there’s no God to endorse the criteria, the criteria holds no weight. Good action is good because it is loved by God.

The book is the source. And those sources willingly faced torment and execution for that fact. Most of history from that time period is from books that don’t cite sources. Most news articles don’t cite sources. Primary sources don’t cite sources. The modern invention of citation wasn’t a big thing then.
