The field of psychology has been around for about 100 years. I don’t think they have all the details worked out enough to call it a science. But let’s set that aside. Do you think Putin will respond to anything but whopping? Why or why not?

Google that, and let me know what it says. Also, I didn’t say they should, I said they do. You could as easily ask why some people engage in criminal activity or abusive behavior, and probably get the same answers.
There’s 8 billion people in this world and I can only impact a few of them. Whopping them isn’t a tool I prefer or tend to use, but I also recognize that it’s the only tool some on the side of behaving decently have or some people respond to.
Compassionate implies intent as well as behavior. But intent can never be really known. If correct behavior is achieved by them fearing God, loving God, compassion, or the pragmatic understanding that their behavior is going to cause damage to society and make their lives uncomfortable is pretty hard to judge from the outside, so I’ll focus on the behavior. I’d prefer the more altruistic reasons, but I have only poor tools to make that assessment.
“Would the authoritarian just tell me what to do with no consideration of my preferences?”
I don’t remember where I heard it first, but I’ve seen a number of his supporters (and Obama’s detractors) get a little miffed when I said, “Remember, the president with five kids from three different women isn’t the black one.”
Oddly enough, if you save the image via Voyager for Android, it’s perfectly viewable.
The real tragedy is that they both lasted too long.
The pragmatic part of me doesn’t care how they get to the correct outcome. There are plenty of people who don’t, with or without god.
It’s a requirement, and a flaw, of the adversarial justice system, particularly where lawyers arent appointed, but hired. It breaks down if there isn’t a vigorous defense of the accused, but it is exacerbated by money giving access to more capable defense, which can lead to rich people having a license to do whatever they want, up to and including killing their spouses.
And now we have a suspect!

Ah, there’s the problem when trying to move stuff between Windows and my Steam Deck.
The problem with this, and it’s a serious one, is that gives them the opportunity to say no.
I will need to buy a new TV soon, and the single biggest factor won’t be price, features, or quality, it will be the absolute minimum smart features available. I’m fine with a sleep timer, and built-in audio smoothing would be great, but I can add anything else I want with a dongle that costs less than $100 (or just attach a full-blown computer to it). I’m not made of money, but I’m fortunate enough that I can afford to buy a TV with something other than an opportunity to invade my private life for marketing.
The other thing I’m looking for is a decent non-Google/Apple smartphone with an eye to privacy. A decent Linux phone would be great, Sailfish OS looks promising, maybe there are other options. Hopefully my Samsung lasts until then. When one of their updates came out whose main feature seemed to be the ability to spy on you everywhere, I closed my account and don’t even have that logged in anymore. There are a number of interesting features I can’t use, and a lot of terrible features I don’t want, that aren’t available to me anymore. A smartphone that belongs to me, and not some corporate conglomerate would be nice. We’ll see.
You say that, but I like to take a moment and savor that extra-orange chip so I can prepare myself to revel in the additional flavor when I stuff it into my fat face. Now I’m going to be occasionally pleasantly surprised when I get an extra one while being mostly disappointed when I don’t get them or, even worse, eat those blessed chips with a bunch of their inferior ilk and waste the experience altogether.
Apparently it’s surprisingly hard to not vote for Asian Jim.
So, if I said “I’d like a burger, but not too much ketchup or mustard,” would you put a little mustard on it, or no mustard at all? When I see “no excessive capitalization or grammatical errors”, I assume they don’t want excessive amounts of either, while you’re saying they don’t want excessive capitalization and no grammatical errors at all. Seems an odd interpretation, linguistically.
You are correct. That was a hypothetical comment that is absurd now as the ones about not making a Dyson shell sometime in the future if civilization doesn’t collapse first.
Well, given that the earth only utilizes about 1 billionth of the sun’s energy, so I think we could have both with just a little effort.
And what if what they want is to enact violence on others?
