Any amount of civilian ships has zero chance of breaking through even a small Navy’s determined effort to stop them. The purpose of these ships is to put Israel in a bind. Hurting foreign civilians that are on a peaceful mission would be bad politically. Letting them through would make Israel’s blockade look like a joke and probably encourage others to do the same. Even stopping them without hurting anyone is showing the world that Israel doesn’t want civilian aid going into Gaza. They likely know they will be intercepted and stopped by Israel’s navy. The point is to make this an international incident that puts pressure on Israel to at least lessen it’s genocidal tendencies. If all ships went at one time, it would be one news cycle. This way, they are making multiple news cycles out of it, maximizing the pressure.

The fact that Russia is so aggressive to it’s neighbors is pushing them to join NATO. Even Finland and Sweden joined, two proud independent countries felt they had no choice. That’s not western imperialism. Acting like NATO is powering this aggression is just projecting.

That’s like 3 beers worth. I’m not saying you can’t burn significant calories by exercising but the effort needed is way more than simply not drinking 3 beers. Also most exercise isn’t going to burn 800+ calories. The only way an average person is hitting those kind of numbers is if they have an intense manual labor job.

Having a calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight. Everybody knows that. Exercise actually burns very few calories. There are many other health benefits to exercising but weight loss isn’t really one of them.

In my experience, a calorie deficit is much easier if you eat better foods, rather than try to eat smaller portions of unhealthy foods. More fiber keeps you feeling full for longer. Find ways to incorporate lots more vegetables in your diet. I keep apples around for when I want a snack. I make bean tacos instead of chorizo (maybe I’ll mix a little chorizo in), etc. Find sauces and ways to spice up veggies. Don’t worry if your sauces and dressings are the most healthy. Just getting the vegetables is the most important.

Also cut back on drinking of you do that a lot. Lots more calories in alcohol than people realize.

Not really. His base will excuse authoritarian power grabs, blatantly racist policies, sexual assault, etc but this one might be the one that breaks him. The Q-anon stuff was all about a bunch of elite politicians having secret pedophile rings. They thought Trump was sent by God to expose that. The phrase “Epstein didn’t kill himself” is probably more unifying than any flag. Pam Bondi made a big deal about releasing the Epstein files. His base was frothing at the mouth to finally let the world know. With the administration’s sudden course shift, even his supporters are wanting answers.

I use mint that I haven’t updated in years because one time I tried and it failed so I stopped trying. It’s my old work Thinkpad that I now use exclusively to run weekly events. It’s old and heavy and I needed a more lightweight OS than windows.

This is clear whataboutism. Iran and Israel can both be bad. Ukraine wants max pressure on the Russian war machine. So they cheer the weakening of a Russian military supplier. They also probably figure that if America is itching to fight again, it might as well help them out. They also probably sense the news cycle further shifting away from Ukraine and are trying to bring themselves into the conversation.

That’s not true and also it’s not the reason. We just don’t drink a lot of tea. There’s not a huge reason to own an electric kettle unless you’re drinking a lot of tea. It’s still much faster than a stovetop kettle.

The power is not why Americans don’t own electric kettles (well some do but most don’t). It’s still faster to boil water from an electric kettle than on the stove. Americans don’t own electric kettles because they don’t drink much tea.

I’m kinda not surprised it stopped the 9mm. It’s not the most powerful round. Also, several platters is basically like spaced armor, which is more bullet resistant than the same total thickness in one chunk. Ever shot a gun before this?

Preparing for the worst is not a bad idea. If the situation turned sour, I’d love to be in a big group of people prepared for that. But if I did show up like that, I would’ve been 1 of a small handful with that level of preparedness. It wouldn’t have mattered. By far, the most important thing for these protests to be successful is for people to show up in huge numbers. If people feel like they need to be ready for war, they won’t show up and the protest won’t be as impactful. I’d rather have 10s of thousands showing up in funny costumes carrying instruments and noisemakers than a couple hundred with gas masks.

Reddit has a bunch of “call-and-response” sort of trigger words and phrases, along with canned responses to a situation, repeated in-jokes, etc which made a lot of the site feel bloated and samey. Definitely the comments are much sparser here but there’s none of that. Anytime I Google something and check a reddit thread for answers, I’m shocked at how easily any thread can turn into some blown up debate about something stupid. In general that doesn’t happen here.

On the other hand, this is a pretty leftists-only echo chamber which narrows perspective. I went to the no kings protest today. If you believe Lemmy, I should have brought thrifted clothes, a 3M respirator, milk of magnesia, a first aid kit, heat resistant gloves, etc. really what I needed was an energy drink because I got tired. Lemmy can get pretty up it’s own ass about the aesthetics of revolution.

I don’t think it’s right to assume that people who block political online content are doing nothing. Hell, I think it’s more likely that people who consume a lot of political content feel that they’re doing something when they aren’t.
