Your judges are appointed by the attorney general. Who in turn is appointed by your governor general (the king’s representative) but advised by your PM. Basically chosen by your PM as the 'ole GG is basically all pomp and circumstance only. A figurehead choosing not to use their actual power. Good faith and all that.
You have a new attorney general in 2025. You probably should check it out. It’s a system that relies on everyone acting in good faith and is quite political. The reason why it never comes up is because it hasn’t broken down yet.
Note: the GG is appointed by the king who has the ultimate decision making power but, good faith. He is also “advised” by the PM, by the way. Just to double down on your concerns.

Please be aware that our federal government is currently favoring laws against international students due to a huge problem with schools admitting many more international students than their facilities or surrounding communities could handle to collect increased tuition and fees. I’m not sure how that applies to masters and PhD students but may affect anyone from outside the country.
They are also currently tabling legislation to limit immigration in ways similar to how the US has in the past. This never leads to safety and happiness for minorities or immigrants as we have seen elsewhere. Should these laws not be amended and pass as written I would not consider Canada a safe haven any longer. It is sad and maddening all at athe same time.
I apologise for the actions of my government for they do not speak for me and I hope more Canadians can see what is happening here and act to stop it.

We voted in hopes of fending off this fascist takeover and yet here we are with Drumpfkins next door and our own “left” cooking the country.
The citizens of the world are under fire everywhere from fascism and even Nazism. We all need to stand up and fight back no matter where we live.
I agree and yet it is more than what my country is doing unfortunately. We have a rapist felon in Drumphkins, a proven government backer of murderers on Canadian soil in Modi, Meloni and her ultra fascism amongst others here for a visit. Our government and private institutions also support the genocide happening to the Palestinians. Numerous journalists and professors have been fired for what they’ve said or written. Regular citizens as well. A highschool graduate valedictorian in Ottawa was just told by her highschool not to come back to school for the rest of the year for simply recognising the genocide in Palestine at the end of her graduation speech this past weekend. It wasn’t even the main topic of her speech but a byline at the end.
We also have a PM that wants to pass laws that put us further into the class war and war on immigrants and minorities that we currently wage even though we thought a few short months ago we were voting against such action. They’re all invited and gathered together surrounded by the highest security in the world to discuss all our futures at the G7. They are in a place where they can easily avoid protests or even seeing them and there is no interaction with any of the people they actually represent because they seem terrified someone will hurt or kill them. I wonder why…
Every little bit of resistance, anywhere, is good and should be praised.
