As someone who tries to limit their own meat intake, I’d be all for an increased social trend of eating venison or kangaroo, especially if regional hunters can get them into supply chains going elsewhere. It’s not a practice that could go on for decades, but we could fulfill a need to limit populations, give people a chance for sport outdoors, while also providing a source of meat that’s not horrifically industrialized.

I feel like these days, I have limited patience for gullibility. Quite often now, “They tricked me” or “They threatened me” is actually being used as an excuse for one’s own bigotry.

A hundred thousand ads telling me that puppies are monstrous mind-controlled Russian robots aiming to rape women in my community could not convince me of such a “fact”. And I feel that the political messaging around Trans people is just as convincing.

The strongest negative opinion I’ve seen from an honest, non-trolling non-partisan southern voter, was that he was upset about “Trans people taking our tax dollars”. But when asked further, he said “If they want to pay for their surgeries themselves (which they do) he’s totally fine with them.” All the rest are hiding their own deep-seated illogical hatred. Hardly anyone is solely defined as being a victim of indoctrination.

I’d absolutely prefer getting away from the command line, but no distro I’ve tried has fulfilled that promise; there’s always something I’d like a certain way where there’s no intuitive UI to make that setting change.

I’m just knowledgable enough it doesn’t scare me off, it just annoys me.

My issue is that one might be alone on their obscure distro. I tried out Bazzite, but hit a fair number of issues getting stuff to run and my UI to look how I wanted. It contains many emulation layers to run packages made for other distros, but if they don’t quite work out of box, you can’t just look up the tutorial commands built for the other platforms.

My next go might be something popular like Mint or Ubuntu just to make issue searches easier.

I get the sense places like California and New York are seen as the homes of the rich elite. Which, they are - because that’s where everyone wants to live. Conservatives miss that they’re also the homes of hundreds of thousands of oppressed working class like themselves who also hate those rich elites, because states are big places.

There’s also racism. They hate sanctuary cities because they go against their narrative that immigrants are destroying America. (Signed, a white guy living in a sanctuary city that is proud of its low crime rate)

Look, it’s not my fault memes have fallen to the same complexities of supply chains.

My line in the sand was when Nintendo went after GMod hosting of their character models.

When they go after emulators, I was upset but at least acknowledge there’s an economic relation there - and there’s some legal basis for protecting their copyright (even if the emulator itself is technically outside their rights).

But taking down models used solely for fan creations is just pointlessly mean. No developer I know is upset about people putting up animations of their game protagonists doing silly shit like slipping on banana peels or getting blown up.

I apologize if I stated that in a way disposed to overinterpretation; 52% is still “most”, but you’re right, it is a slim majority.

It was only meant to be interesting to those who would’ve thought women owners would be a minority - that masculinity was the main selling point.

Fun bit of introspection: I believe most SUVs and trucks are actually owned by women. The primary driver for big cars isn’t just male toxicity - it’s feelings of safety, extended to children. Many women have very genuine reasons to feel vulnerable anywhere they walk. That changes when they’re behind an 8000-ton tank.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero.

In a lot of respects it’s a good game, its fans even love it as a part of this big ongoing series. But it repeated a few tropes and trends that really started to get to me; wherein so many villains are introduced in a Dragonball style of escalating power rather than character definition.

The first two games introduced one supremely powerful hero, but invented mature and elaborate reasons as to why he couldn’t save the world alone - why evil or influential forces need cooperation of everyone to defeat, not a single showy swordsman. Then, later games try to impress you by showing villains that could easily beat this hero; without character definition to make such claims worth it.

They also really sold into the anime gender tropes - where every woman makes shy/teasing comments about the male lead, most girls are lesbian only for the sake of sexual harassment rather than true connection, etc.

The dual-use of the English “spice” (ground minerals used to improve flavor) and “spice” (substances that cause food to taste hot and intense) leads to many unfortunate losses of potential flavor.

It’s been interesting seeing a few rural communities rediscover the practice of farming their own eggs to sell to neighbors. Not even something that needs an enormous farming operation.

That’s where the mass action comes in. With enough people acting simultaneously, you have nowhere near enough prisons to hold the people protesting; and then the only way to stop them is some act of appeasement.

I think it’s de-emphasized because part of the GOG appeal is that you don’t need a launcher and can grab direct DRM free installers. The launcher just exists for convenience.

Everything you do relies on some middlemen, it’s just about cutting out layers.

You won’t grow your own food, but you can buy it from a farmer, instead of a store who bought it from a franchise center who bought it from a supply network who bought it from a risk management futures buyer who bought it from a farming company who bought it from a farm.

Thing is…I think both claims are correct.

Mastercard and Visa are not the only middle-men; the only “payment processors” involved in making sales.

Next time you check out at a cafe, look at the branding of the tablet/software the cashier is using. Chances are, it wasn’t developed by the cafe owners, or by MC/Visa. That’s a payment processor. There’s some big ones out there that can be hard to avoid.

EDIT: While finding exact point of blame remains difficult, a recent statement from Valve suggests I may be wrong about the card companies being innocent, at least with Mastercard. It’s a long chain and it seems each link wants to forward blame.
