When I was in school we read Animal Farm, but instead of 1984 they had us read Brave New World. It seemed like a more accurate commentary at the time. Just everyone blissfully unaware and high on “soma” and trivial entertainment. Bread and circuses as it were. Crazy to see what a sudden turn to 1984 we’ve taken in just a few months.

THB@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•US House speaker shuts down chamber to block Epstein vote27·4 days agoYou’d be surprised how many minorities voted against their interests as well. I have religious family who supported this. “Latinas for Trump” was also a thing. The stupidity of the human race is really something.
I was frankly shocked how many justices Trump was allowed to appoint. And bewildered how little pushback came from the Dems. The decisions being made now were already set in motion in Trump’s first term appointments imo, but so little was made of it then.
I recall Obama having to compromise on his appointments, and then literally giving up his last one to Trump.
And that’s how you get a completely compromised Judicial branch I guess.

THB@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Top Trump Adviser Sergio Gor Was Born In the Soviet Union21·18 days agoThe point is we don’t have to. THEY do, because by and large made-up strawmen and double standards are all they have. We have a fuck ton of actual crimes and evil heinous shit to actually throw at them. Where this guy was born is a waste of media space.
THB@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Top Trump Adviser Sergio Gor Was Born In the Soviet Union242·18 days agoSorry you’re getting downvoted. If anyone actually read the article he was born in current day Uzbekistan, had a childhood home in Malta and moved to the States as a child. His birthplace is as irrelevant as Obama’s was. Which isn’t to say he couldn’t now have Russian ties as implied, but that would be a different issue.
Clamoring over this just makes us look as stupid as these Nazis.

Can anyone explain #1 to me? What are you supposed to circle? It says “the number or the letter”. There’s 1 number and the entire sentence is literally letters…
It’s like when the waiter asks “Soup or salad?” and you say “Yes”.
