Thoven@lemdro.idto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•At your current rate of spending, for how long could you survive without income?English7·16 days agoRight now, until next month’s mortgage payment comes due. Every time I get something in the emergency fund either an emergency happens or a maintenance that will be an emergency if ignored. Just ordered a new set of car tires about an hour ago, as it happens.
Thoven@lemdro.idto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How much data do you require before you accept something as "fact"?English1·1 month agoDepends on the source and the weight of the claim. My fattest friend tells me the new Italian place slaps? Fact. The smartest person I know tells me there’s a newly discovered planet? Worth looking into if it comes from them, but I’m skeptical.
Thoven@lemdro.idto News@lemmy.world•Donald Trump is the first president in 116 years to not be invited to the NAACP conventionEnglish122·1 month agoThis term definitely isn’t deprecated or insulting? Most colleges in my state have an NAACP branch. They have career fairs and all sorts of events under the name. This may be regional though. I suppose anything can be considered an insult if you say it in a certain way.
Cards on the table: for Google money I’d do it too. If they want to enshittify their product until the competition has a fighting chance, who am I to stop them? Sure, it’s an annoying and anticonsumer thing to do. But making a “free” product’s bad qualities harder to circumvent isn’t the ethical hill I’m going to die on.
When content is low quality, posted to the wrong community (usually intentionally), trolls. Basically anything that I feel shouldn’t exist. The content that I believe takes value from people’s lives instead of adding it. If I find content that I dislike but believe adds value to other people, well that’s what the block/ban features are for.
