My favorite bit is how offended Larry gets at people thinking of George as a schmutz lol

Valencia@sh.itjust.worksto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If americans come to germany and act like german public Transport is the best, how frickin bad is american public Transport?13·3 days agoMy commute; this is a fun way to show how car centric America is lol
So I can’t be proud of being from my country? City? Neighborhood? I don’t think it’s so black and white unless you have another term to describe being happy about where you’re from.
Valencia@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are you learning another language? How far along are you?4·9 days agoI know you said transition away from news sites but Easynhk.com is always a staple
Twitter is honestly great since there’s so much variety, not to mention there’s a lot of artists who’ll post full chapters of manga. You just have to curate who you follow to avoid musk stuff.
I’d also say just watch some YouTube videos. It’s a good way to practice listening and most YouTubers will personally subtitle their videos as well so you can follow along while reading. A particular favorite way for me is to watch videos of Japanese people travelling/living in America/English speaking places. It’s fun seeing their experiences with everyday stuff for us; a channel I watch a lot is called Kira Kira USA. They post videos frequently, use a lot of day to day Japanese, and get to see viewpoints from the various family members.
Good luck!

Valencia@sh.itjust.worksto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Sincerely, your literally poorest europoor.22·10 days agoI mean, isn’t this why everything you see is America dominated? Almost every major platform used by typical English speaking westerners is going to be owned and made in America and hence America focused. Combine this with the gargantuan influence America exerts on the world, I don’t think it’s hard to see why you see so much American centered things. I get this is a shit post but I always see comments like this bemoaning american over representation.
Can I get a summary of what’s going on in Chinese Linux land? That seems pretty interesting; I always wonder what programs the East uses vs the West
Valencia@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Teamviewer Terminates Perpetual LicensesEnglish1·15 days agoDo you know how wasteful? Is there like an actual overhead when running obs, or is it more like Nvidia shadow play or steams recording? Are you actually recording when you have that active or is it just actually creating a virtual screen?
Valencia@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Teamviewer Terminates Perpetual LicensesEnglish71·15 days agoAnyone know how I can get remote access with my monitors off while using Wayland ? Everytime I log in if I have my monitors off I just get a black screen. I bought one of those dummy HDMI plugs no dice. Works fine with x11 but I don’t want to have to relog every time I get to my computer.
Valencia@sh.itjust.worksto Games@lemmy.world•Microsoft Plans Major Job Cuts at Xbox Gaming DivisionEnglish4·16 days agoXbox will still exist as a platform, just not the console. It’ll probably just be stuff like the Xbox ally x; Xbox partners with brands to sell hardware with cut down versions of windows that has access to 3rd party markets like steam and such, but a major emphasis on the Xbox/windows store.
Either way, I don’t think there has to be a third platform if Xbox went away. PC looked kinda shaky there for a moment in the '00s/'10s, but at this point it seems pretty well poised to become the dominant platform. Xbox and PlayStation already port games to steam and even GoG. Nintendo is the harder nut to crack, I’m not sure what’d it take for them to get out of the hardware business. I read somewhere they have enough cash on hand to operate at a loss for like a decade or something.
I get ai being an existential threat to most of the denizens of lemmy (overwhelmingly techy and left leaning) but ai vastly simplified the Linux install process for me. I took a c++ class 10 years ago that I failed and that was about the extent of my programming knowledge so without AI it would’ve been a nightmare trying to get everything set up. Gemini remembered what distro I was installing, my drives and their /dev/ name or whatever, how I should insert those into fstab, why grub wasn’t picking up my nobara install, etc. AI might be useless in other situations but computer commands and troubleshooting I think it’s the one place it excels.
Total opposite for me. Could get lost in Kenshi, I watched a review on qud in bought it and was like uhh wtf do I do lol
