Krita is certainly made for painting and also animation, but you can also edit photos with it, best to have both, GIMP and Krita, they are great complementing tools.
VLC is nice, but I switched to the SMplayer, which do the same, but is way faster and easier to handle.
Well, Windows as such don’t need more RAM as some Linux distros, What is wasting the most RAM is all the telemetries, services not needed, trials, adware and other crap which Windows has by default when you buy it with a new PC. Windows need average users because of this capables to fix it, not needed in Linux. That is the difference. A gutted Windows is pretty fast, without all the trash which is loaded on boot. Eg,only diseable the hybernation service reduce a big part of the RAM, because it make duplicates of all open apps as temporary files, to load these on the next startup. same with the index service to find files somewhat faster, which waste memory to write any change to the index, not really needed in mdern PC and less with an SSD. Only diseabling this 2 services can increase the speed and respond more than 50%.
But the normal user don’t do it and only claimes that Windows becomes slower and slower, because it is more and more filled with temp and trash files. That is the problem with Windows, because MS sells you a car, but by default with a huge caravan which you don’t need, that must tow.

It’s not easy, ShareX depends on NetFramework components, which Linux don’t have, it don’t even work well with Wine, because of this until now all intents are not very functional or even abandoned (ShareNix (early alpha), ShareXin (archived)…). It’s better to use Screenshot tools for Linux, even if they all aren’t so complete like ShareX. Architecture differences between Windows and Linux are very big.

1·1 day agoThe speed depends not of the Office suite as such, but on the server it use to host it, Murena hosted it on the own server (NextCloud), but as said, you are free to host it by yourself. I’m an old retiree and don’t need a big cloud service, enough for me to store the few things locally and for this I prefer to use the online SSuite, also privacy focused, even if it isn’t OpenSource. Also Html5, but without account, anonym, free and blazing fast, no ads, no trackers, nor other crap, files a stored locally. It’s a hobby project from 2 electricians, which gain money with their jobs, no interests of tracking or user data to make money.

Only Office is an OpenSource and encrypted online office suite, made in the EU. You can even selfhost it. Full compatible with files from MS Office. But if you know better online Office suites, use it. It’s very valid that Murena use it.

It’s not, right, because of this I said that Gimp and Krita are good to use as complementary tools for normal users. Krita is even capable to edit .raw formats, used in Photography, In Gimp you need an Plug-in to edit .nef or .raw formats, but with not so good results, also not in Krita, that is why Photografs still prefer to use Photoshop.
