Luckily our city’s traffic minister is a keen cyclist. That really shows in the development of bike infrastructure in the last 5 years.

I’m not sure if that’s what you’re looking for, but such studies are standard procedure for major infrastructure projects, at least where I’m from. Here’s the 49-page executive summary for a new subway that’s currently being built in my home town. It’s obviously in German, but I guess the same should exist in English for any subway/tram etc. that has been built in the UK or any other English speaking country.
To give a brief summary of the summary: They’ve included all kinds of costs like
etc. and they come to a net-worth of 1.28 (later this was reduced to 1.23 due to unexpectedly high inflation in construction, but I don’t know if they also recalculated the without-case after inflation), meaning every 1€ spent will generate 1.28€ in revenue/savings. Or a net gain of 39 Million Euros per year.
I guess you didn’t, I just read it that way being under the influence of all the other comments on this meme here and elsewhere, that seem to insinuate that comparing construction in these two places is smh wrong because China=evil and North America=righteous.
My bad to place your comment in the same category.
You just gave proof that the people who are in the way don’t matter in the US either, as long as it’s about building inner city highways.
The difference between China and the US is, that the Chinese government does what they deem is necessary and logical, ignoring the people while the US does what the deem is profitable and lucrative ignoring the people.
Not a good recommendation. I was hoping for a relaxing NJB video from the Netherlands, instead I was screaming at my screen, getting more and more infuriated with every new chapter. And haven’t even been near Toronto in my life.
See you later, I have to go find some Valium.

Whenever I meet someone who’s proud to drive Mercedes, I tell them, that it only costs 2,10€ to drive Mercedes. (In German, to drive and to ride (a bus/car/train) is the same word).
I knew that Škoda used to build tanks and planes, I just didn’t know about the trains.
I was confused at first: Since when does Škoda produce the Smart? Didn’t know they also build trains. 🚈🚃🚃🚃
WTF, how did this place look like in the past? Was it really a drive-through farmers market? Sorry if I sound stupid here, but that’s totally unimaginable for me as a non-USian. I’ve never seen a market that’s not pedestrianised in my life.
You guys would also drive your cars through the shelves of Walmart if you could, wouldn’t you?!
It’s not the EM radiation part that’s problematic, it’s the brainwashing part. And my friends seldomly try to brainwash me, except maybe into living a healthier lifestyle and going out more.
Me, I am brainwashing myself all the time, by telling me how miserably I’m failing my life at one moment. And by telling me how awesome I am the moment after. Not sure if that’s problematic or just normal.
Sure, what are advertisements other than the attempt to brainwash people into buying some product or another.
Cable TV is also mainly producing electromagnetic radiation (light) in the end. And some acoustic waves as well to be honest. So Fox News & Co are really mind controlling you guys with EM radiation. No conspiracy needed.
Are these the values from one specific year? If yes, the statistical error would be massive, especially for the cities <50k. The value of 73/100k in Dayton means, that ~7 people died, which could easily be caused by a single incident. So it might be the case that Dayton is generally a safe city, but it was just a really bad year for them. You’d have to look at multiple years to be able to see a pattern.
Where I’m from, drivers are sitting in sound proofed boxes called cars. The newer the car, the better the sound isolation. So unless the taxi was a convertible, the comparison is invalid.
When I’m wearing my headphones I can easily understand someone talking to me. When I’m sitting in my car I don’t hear a word when someone is talking outside the door.
It makes a huge difference if you yourself are paying attention, which seems hard wearing headphones.
What about the driver? Did he listen to the radio? If it seems so hard to pay attention while wearing headphones, why is it still allowed to sell car radios?
wearing high-viz clothing […] how little people are aware of blind spots
How does wearing high-viz clothing help you when you are in a blind spot? And why does no one ask which colour the taxi was? Was it high-viz or maybe gray or black like most cars?
Can’t even watch this without creating an account. 😑
Japan finds solutions, America finds excuses.
You have enough taxpayers to build 26 lane highways in California, but you’re telling me you don’t have enough money to build a 2 lane HSR?
In fact we use Saarland as the official measuring unit. One Saarland is ≈ 43 Manhattans. Or, to be more precise, one Manhattan is 23 Millisaarlands.
Can’t be done in Canada, because of the cold weather. /s
