  • Another of user ArbitrayValues comments right here from another thread, arguing that its ok for the catholic church to keep pedo priests confessions of their crimes secret:

The issue here is that Catholic priests have a religious obligation not to report crimes they find out about in certain specific circumstances, and this law would prevent them from fulfilling that obligation

So no, I dont think your opinions about genocide matter much, buddy. You always seem to pick the wrong side where religions are concerned.

  • I see a lot of people thinking the US must be ordering israel around as a proxy. Less people believe its possible that Israel could be controlling the US.

    1. It seems to me that whenever a vote for Israel comes up in US congress, it gets almost 100% of the vote, which seldom happens on any other issue.

    2. the US government is run almost completely by lobbying (bribes) whereas the Israeli government is less so.

    3. AIPAC sends handlers that tell us congressman how to vote. The US doesnt do that in Israel.

    4. The US has baes all over the region, but arent allowed in Israel.

    5. The Us historicallt yhas gained nothing by supporting Israel. No oil. No land. Just trouble. If they were a puppet, they’d be doing actions that accrue benefits to the US.

  • I think you maybe misread it. It does nothing to stop offensive weapons. It does cut off “defensive” weapons.
I dont agree with her assumption that defensive weapons are fine but offensieve weapons are what needs to stop. Defensive weaponsallow Israel to act with impunity. They are part of the problem. If we are supplying Israel with defensive weapons and we are all just ok with that, we should supply lebanon, Iran, Palestine, Egypt, and syira with defenesive weapons too, if they are such peaceful and righteous things? And why is it on the US taxpayer to pay for these? We aren’t Israel’s daddy and we dont owe them anything. Let them buy their own. They have free college, free health care, etc, and we dont.

Here it is again: AOC’s post:

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza. Of course I voted against it.

What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue.

I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end. That is a simple and clear difference of opinion that has long been established.

I remain focused on cutting the flow of US munitions that are being used to perpetuate the genocide in Gaza.

  • I see your logic, but I wonder if Dem leadership is willing to do the things for the common voters they will need to do to get the voters back on side so they can win. So far I havent seen a willingness or urgency to change much of anything. I just see the dems collaborating with republicans on most votes. To be fair the progressive wing is also withering a bit (seems to me, anyway-- what do I know).

  • I think its time to start looking past democrats as possible agents of change. Justice delayed is justice denied, and the AIPAC centrists are firmly in control and not about to change anything. Rallying behind them just guarantees more loss, at the cost of enabling their corruption. Their base has already left to the point that they cant win anything. They have a 28% approval rating.
