After ten years of maga, and thirty or so years of watching R point in exactly this direction with every conservative policy or position, and every argument I ever had that included being called a “bleeding heart” or worse, I’m just here to wait for us to get it over with already, and then warm my hands on the smoldering wreckage of our nation that remains when Trump is done wrecking it.

Eventually I will die of old age while continuing to give no shits about maga or anything they have brought upon themselves while consigning the rest of us to the dystopian hell hole they cheered and voted for. The nation will still be recovering from Trump though, if we’re lucky.

They’ve wrecked the lives of countless people with their slavish devotion to a candidate who embodies the worst of what US culture has ever had to offer. Some of those people are people I love and care about, but they are all people.

And on top of it all - they still have no objection to where things are headed until it affects them personally.

Fuck every last Trump voter. I’m very happy to let better, less jaded people than I am go the Andrew Johnson route. (not that I think it was a good idea the first time either) I don’t need or want any maga in my life.

I don’t hate them for their ignorance. I would actually stop short of saying I hate them at all. But the deep disdain I feel for them is for the hellscape they have dragged all of us into, and which will take decades to fix, if we fix it at all.

So yeah, I’m probably burdened by being ignorant of how that makes me just as bad as they are.

Considering I’ll die of old age still being harmed by what they have empowered and are currently cheering for, and will also die knowing my kids’ lives and the lives of everyone I care about will be worse because of it, I’m ok with that.

I’m sure someone is somewhere grappling with that.

Since the politicians they support and voted in are actively dismantling the government, erecting a dictatorship, and enacting policies guaranteed to get people needlessly killed I don’t find myself burdened by such concerns.

I mean sure, you could ignore the struggles of others not like you and be like the the White Moderates in “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” - that is what most people do, no doubt.

I’m relieved to see his astounding incompetence finally reaping results in his polling numbers again and again, because it’s breaking the spell he seemed to have over half the country. Hell, it’s even breaking the allure of fascism in the elections of other countries at this point. His gross incompetence during this presidency is single-handedly moving the whole world a little more to the left.

Could be, but I’m about six months past caring about the mental state of Trump voters.

I’m going to die of age before we’ve patched up the damage they voted in. That optimistically assumes we really ever patch it up. My kids are going to have to live a good chunk of their lives in this fucking dystopian hellhole they voted and cheered for. And I look back on decades of life and realize this is the logical endpoint of where US conservative politics have always been headed: a stripping away of rights from women, minorities, and queer folks and gutting of our educational system for the sake of keeping the populace stupid and controllable. Every conservative policy I can recall has been in service of these goals.

The only new part is that they are openly embracing oligarchy, everything else is stuff they’ve been saying or doing somewhat more politely for as long as I can remember. They finally got power and immediately did exactly what everyone who has opposed them all these years predicted they would do, giving the lie to “compassionate conservatism” and “big tent” and all the other crap they tried to paper over their bigotry with in the past.

Unless somehow stopped, Trump will turn our nation into nothing but a breeding ground for literal human resources for the oligarchs. It’s why they vilify and don’t want to fund education, and also don’t want to pay for healthcare. (and why they don’t see the value of the EPA, the FDA, or protecting our national parks against exploitation for profit) Somebody has already run the numbers and figured out that it costs less to treat loss of human resources as the cost of doing business than to fund healthcare. No vaccines needed. As long as enough people survive to do the manual labor the oligarchs need done, and buy the products that they helped produce so they can go back the next day and produce more of them, what do they care? Sure, let the people who can afford it get insurance and care. There’s no financial incentive to help the rest of us. It’s also the same reason they are anti-birth-control. They literally want a nation of breeders. (And normally I despise that term.)

Fuck those people whether they realize how badly they have fucked up or not. They have fucked over the entire nation with their asshattery, despite Trumps behavior in his first term and after, despite the proliferation of information about project 2025 prior to the election, and despite 8 years of the rest of us trying desperately to explain to them how they were going to fuck us all in their rush to own the libs and win the culture wars.

I couldn’t care less about whether they get the needed offramp unless it increases their chances of laying awake in bed at night in horror and shame at what they have dealt to the nation.

I’m glad there actually is a moral line for these people. But, as best as I can tell, we’re still not over it for most of them.

I hope no one ever lets them forget how much had to transpire before they found where that moral line was. I am going to go to my grave being spoken of as that nice old man who had a kind word to for everyone until the moment he would find out they were a Republican.
