This is interesting. A popular squirrel deterrent for bird feeders is to put spicy stuff on the seed. I’ve been trying that lately and the squirrels have completely left my bird feeder alone. So there must be something rodents don’t like — unless squirrels are just built different?

proudblond@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many musicians we got here on Lemmy?English2·9 days agoYay, another choral singer! My degrees are in music but I don’t play my childhood instrument anymore so instead I sing in a chorus. People think singers aren’t good musicians as a rule and that’s total garbage. We sing some really difficult stuff as a chorus and you have to know what your note sounds like before you sing it; you can’t rely on just knowing the fingering for your instrument. It’s so much fun but also a great mental challenge. I’m thankful to have it in my life as my intellectual musical outlet.

So by voluntarily lowering your available credit, you’re actually hurting yourself way more than the card companies. At least I think that’s how it works, or rather one of many factors.

My aesthetician (who I must explain helped me save my adult-acne-ridden skin) suggested Neutragena Sensitive Skin Moisturizer with a separate physical sunscreen on top. Reddit swears by Cerave, but she says their method just strips your skin’s natural moisture barrier and then attempts to add it back, so she was not a fan. I’m not sure if Neutragena is available in the UK, but when I was there a few years ago and my luggage was delayed, I bought something that had “simple” or “nature” (or both?) in the title and was a white and light green label, and it seemed comparable.
So we were talking in the car the other day about how yeast is alive (until it isn’t). How do vegans feel about yeast? Honestly asking; I don’t know any vegans irl that I can ask.

My dad watched a lot of Bond when I was a kid and I never liked the Moore ones because I thought they were too silly. But this puts a different spin on them and I appreciate Moore’s thoughtfulness. Good man.

First of all, I didn’t want to talk to you anyway, lady, I just want to read my book. But since you asked, no, I don’t know what you mean when you are talking about how dangerous it is. I played it as simply confused about what she was talking about, and eventually she got confused at my response and left me alone. I wasn’t going to be successful convincing her; I knew that. But playing it that way was non-confrontational and still seemed to have the desired effect, which was to put a chink in the armor of her misinformed opinions.

I’ve been complaining about this for years. My career is in the arts so we rely on my husband’s job for insurance. But what if something happened to him? My job doesn’t even offer insurance; even when I worked for a bigger nonprofit that did, it was crap insurance and expensive to boot because the company wasn’t big enough to get competitive rates.
