  • Hence my question: compared to its heating capabilities, does a heat pump use much more electricity for cooling?

In my experience, they use slightly more electricity heating than cooling. I retrofitted my 120 year old home with inverter style heat pumps about a year ago and have been watching the energy use during temperature extremes.

They do seem a lot more susceptible to drafts than traditional central heat and air units; So making sure your doors and windows are sealed, and the attic (if you have one) is properly ventalated, will go a long ways towards helping their efficiency.

  • Kind of apples an oranges. I consider myself a fairly avid gamer. I have a massive steam library but no steam deck; I could not care less about portable gaming. I have a switch for exclusive titles that I play solely in it’s dock on my TV.

So, as a statistic, I own a switch but no steam deck. But in reality, I have spent orders of magnitude more money on steam than with Nintendo.

  • Just handing them money? No, I don’t. I don’t have much myself.

But I do work in a downtown area near a shelter and see a lot of the same people pass by every day. I’ll give them cold water and extra food if I have it. Certain others I will let go through my scrap metal for stuff they can sell to recyclers, and occasionally I’ll hire someone for the day to help me clean.

I still feel like a dick setting in my air conditioned truck ignoring the person setting outside in 100F+ weather with a “help me” sign.
