Hey now, we don’t know if they’re taking out a substantial loan or selling his car to pay for this extremely expensive computer. Lol
Shitposter while I tend to two babies. Maybe when I have my life back, I’ll help us get a few more niche communities back?

You got enough answers but here’s how you deny someone the right to vote: the question really means you need to make the number 1000000 exact as that is the number “below” the question. Not fewer, physically below.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•I wonder if this was made by AI or a shit programmer94·2 days agoThis reminds me of how I showed a friend and her company how to get databases from BLS and it’s basically all just text files with urls. “What API did you call? How did you scrape the data?”
Nah man, it’s just… there. As government data should be. They called it a hack.

taiyang@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•One of the worst days to get Groundhog Day'd would be when you have an early flight in the morning3·2 days agoOh God, imagine having air sickness. Your first goal would be to learn to control it somehow. This is like a horror film, lol
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•One of the worst days to get Groundhog Day'd would be when you have an early flight in the morning40·2 days agoYes and no. If you’re aware of it you just miss your flight. Buuut, what would very much suck is being mid flight with at least 12 hours left to destination, and no in flight Wi-Fi to boot. Just you, the same in flight movies, and your fellow passengers for years of repeat flight experience.
What would you even do? Learn every line from every movie in every language? Get to know everyone on the flight intimately?
taiyang@lemmy.worldtoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•My neighbors HATE ME due to this one SIMPLE TRICK397·2 days agoYeah there’s plenty of creepy photos (including those with his daughter) but this one is just Ivanka being awkward from a dad kiss.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Now that I've got my conclusion, it's time to go look for evidence that only supports said conclusion!English12·2 days agoThis isn’t terribly believable; I’ve seen some wildly bad takes in “the literature” because there’s just so many for-profit journals that you get a ton of junk science. That, or you find something in the archives from 50 years ago.
Now, if the professor is any good they’ll put restrictions on even that but the bar is so low we’re just happy to see a citation that isn’t a blog or made up by AI.

taiyang@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•RFK Jr wants bright artificial dyes out of food. Are Americans ready to let go?3·3 days agoIdk, there’s something beautiful about seeing all one or two colors of M&Ms left in a bowl.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•RFK Jr wants bright artificial dyes out of food. Are Americans ready to let go?5·3 days agoWell, that and it makes it non-vegitarian. I remember when Starbucks used insect derived dyes and vegetarians were pissed off when they weren’t told their drink technically had bug in it.
That said, we eat bugs (and poop, etc) all the time since there’s a legal amount you can let slip into food when processing. So eh.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in the US1·3 days agoSanta Ana is kind of interesting, they’re one of the few places trying to let undocumented people vote in local elections, too. Unfortunatly I don’t know if they were able to, especially now.
Remember these things come in threes. Hmmmmmmm… I wonder what other major 80s/90s icons who had reality TV shows come to mind?
I wonder…
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in the US1·3 days agoYup. In recent years the wealthy immigrant families turned it blue, though. My comment is more that UCI houses a surprising number of marxists (which I guess anything more than one is surprising, lol).
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Games@sh.itjust.works•Itch.io follows Steam in removing adult gamesEnglish3·3 days agoI thought I read it was both, but either way it’s good not to assume it’s always American. The whole world is problematic at times.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in the US3·4 days agoI was gonna say, I imagine the air quality is phenomenal and likely contributes. The amount of green I saw when I visited was more than my So. Cal brain could process.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in the US3·4 days agoWow, TIL. I’ll hold onto that fun fact. I was there against my preferences to go to grad school, which ironically has a fairly good critical class consciousness.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The Healthiest and Unhealthiest Cities in the US28·4 days agoSome of this is just social class. Irvine is a corporate run suburb that has huge parks, bike paths, and they kidnap and move unhoused folk to nearby Santa Ana.
taiyang@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Columbia University says it has suspended and expelled students who participated in protests8·4 days agoI find this part more upsetting than them paying out 200 million. Honestly though, if I was hiring, I’d probably value “I got kicked out of Columbia for standing up for what I believe in” as a plus.
Don’t be surprised, the PhD world is packed with privileged, egotistical assholes. The only reason schools are generally left is because facts are generally left, but the people able to qualify for and afford to attend top research schools to get doctorates are generally wealthy and in a cultural bubble.
I should know, I was maybe the only one in my graduating class to have attended public school (and definitely the only one who went to a community college).
