The difference is Musk: 1. Actively funded and orchestrated fascism, ruthlessly cutting government services such that an estimated 14 million people (including 4.5 million children under 5) will die in the next five years due to USAID cuts alone, 2. Is continuing to fund and orchestrate fascism in the form of his new political party, and, 3. Is a Nazi.

So, yeah, fuck Musk and fuck Starlink. I don’t care how great the product is if it funds Musk’s fascism. (And yes, the majority of his wealth comes from Starlink and Tesla.)

As far as I know, traffic data is gathered via spying on users—Google Maps and similar apps sending device location to a central cloud service. Maybe somebody could provably anonymize the data somehow to make an alternative service for the open competitors to use.

Fun fact. Polls show more people who sat out the 2024 election would’ve voted for Trump than Harris. So you can quit blaming folks upset about genocide for Trump’s win.

There are Maps alternatives. For instance, Organic maps or the fork CoMaps. Not nearly as good UX as Google Maps… and zero traffic data available… but the upside is they work entirely offline.
