President Donald Trump sparked a wave of alarm and concern on Monday night by nominating Heritage Foundation senior scholar E.J. Antoni to head the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Antoni added fuel to the fire surrounding his nomination on Tuesday when he told Fox News Digital he would likely not release more monthly jobs reports until the data issues are “corrected.”

If you thought the economy was bad before, just wait for the “cooking the books” era. No sane investors will be keeping their money in a banana republic economy with numbers based on vibes

I work with BLS data but I predict, at best, we’re about to have a 3 year gap in useful, accurate data. And that’s a shame, it doesn’t get much more accurate than hard records they keep on income and employment (even if the definitions they use are sometimes unuseful, like measuring underemployment.)
