A jury has awarded a Georgia couple $2.25 million in their lawsuit accusing a pathologist of posting graphic videos of an autopsy of their decapitated baby.
A Fulton County jury returned the verdict against Dr. Jackson Gates on Wednesday. The couple, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr., hired Gates to perform an autopsy on their son, Treveon Taylor Jr., who was decapitated during delivery in July 2023.
They have separately sued the doctor who delivered the baby and the hospital where the delivery occurred. That case is pending.
In a lawsuit filed in September 2023, the couple said Gates posted several videos of the autopsy on Instagram without their permission. Gates initially removed the videos after receiving a letter from the couple’s attorneys, but then reposted them, according to the couple’s attorneys.
…wat?
That’s gotta be an internal decapitation, right? I cannot fathom how a full decapitation happens during delivery, unless someone was using a straight up lightsaber to cut the umbilical cord or something.
I would check myself, but I just don’t want to for some reason.
You’re right. Broken neck during delivery, caused by excessive force from the doctor.
Absolutely horrifying
Went a couple links deep in the article and nope, the standard kind of decapitated (no photos in the link, it’s just a previous AP article that gives more detail). Sounds like the poor kids shoulder got stuck and she straight up ripped his head off.
Edit - fixed link
You know, I think cesarean is overused but the reason it is used is because previously if the baby couldn’t get out, they had to smash the skull and pull out the body and hope the mother survived. What the actual fuck? The midwife did have to reach inside me to fix the position of one of mine and unstick the cord, which was horrifying enough, but how can a doctor not do that if she can? I have a relative with cerebral palsy from a forceps injury too.
And holy shit, someone posted pictures of the body without even asking the parents? Who does that? Have they no shame, no sense?
What do I click to unread this?
It was an internal decapitation, provided this isn’t a second similar case I hadn’t heard about (which would be an awful trend). The whole thing was a mess, with the doctor trying to cover it up and then brush it off like it was a Three Stooges act instead of people’s lives and emotions.
Those poor people. What they originally went through was bad enough but then this asshole comes along.
