Vr so weird to me, with every other kind of gadget there’s a clear ‘best’ that has all the bells and whistles and a ‘good enough’ that has most. But with vr it seems there’s no hierarchy, just a bunch of models with different and (imo) incomplete featuresets and nonsensical prices as if the tech is still brand new…
I enjoyed my PSVR 2 when it was still working. It started having USB issues and now no longer communicates properly. No visible damage or physical accidents that I’m aware of. And Sony wants $275 to repair it.
Where do you live, that unit isnt old enough to warrant paid repairs
It doesn’t warrant warrantilessness?
US. I got it day one, February of 2023. Hence my pain and frustration.
Oh man I am fairly sure that would be covered here. I have had things fixed late based on the principle that tere is an epectation of quality at a certain price point and we also have additional warrantee periods.
Definitely if it was within thebtwo year window theybwould be paying for shipping and all.
Really interested in vr, but also not really interested in paying more than a full ass console for it. Well, i guess consoles are getting way over priced these days, but you get what i mean.
I was really interested in VR after trying it a bunch of times and when Microsoft did their whole partnered VR headsets thing they failed so miserably I managed to get one for like $60 brand new.
And then I realized it works well for like an hour tech demo and playing around in short bursts but otherwise is just a TV strapped to your face, hot and sweaty and kinda uncomfortable and your eyes kinda hurt after a while and the games kinda all sucked since no one had a sense of hardware capabilities…
It’s hyper niche and isn’t really for everyone but how could companies argue against a TV strapped to your face.
I got a Quest 1 (back when it was still supported) for cheap on ebay. PC VR and sideloaded free games and piracy have kept me afloat. I’m not even logged in to Meta’s shit.
I bought a psvr2 for my ps5. It’s really impressive but has three major flaws.
- it’s too hot. It seals against your face with a rubber gasket and turns into a sweat machine.
- vr in general causes motion/simulation sickness. Takes all the fun right out of the game.
- there’s no games for it. Even the “good” games suck. Beat saber being the exception to the rule.
There are some great games idk what you’re talking about.
1 and 2 aren’t personally a problem for me I prefer the rubber gasket to the cloth on my meta headset but if you run hot I could see that being a problem.
3 though, I’ve been really enjoying the newish Alien Game, walkabout mini golf (of course), the resident evils… I mean yeah the library is limited but in no way are the “good” games sucking. The ones I just listed ruled.
If I ever upgrade my ancient PC I’m really looking forward to using this headset on PC.
I’ve read someone is in the early stages of getting eye tracking to work with the PSVR2 on PC. I’ve seen clips that it works, but was still obviously needing calibration.
And it was just on sale for like $350 IIRC, I was mega tempted to say the least.
Yeah I picked one up the first time they were on sale about a year ago. Absolutely love it. Realized my Pc is no where near vr ready ended up buying a quest just to have more Vr. I wasn’t expecting the quality to be so different. The VR2 headset is truly amazing.
2 big things can help your 2nd point:
- A circle rug with noticeably different feel to it compared to the floor it’s on.
- A single floor standing fan aiming at the area (or circle rug) where you use VR.
Both should help you maintain your orientation in the world without breaking your immersion.
Some games are just poorly made though, and even give me motion sickness. And I basically never get motion sickness from VR in general.
Beat saber is the only game besides Gran Turismo that I ever used with VR. Both are great experiences. I only bought it for GT7 on PS5, total waste of money honestly, but it’s nice that the PSVR also works on PC too so I can use it on other racing games.
I guess Mount & Blade aren’t on PlayStation VR? I haven’t played it, but it looks almost like Boneworks, where you can do all the things. There’s even magic.
Overall I love my PSVR2. Got it with the pack in Horizon Call of Mountain game, but that caused way too much motion sickness for me.
Instead, I use the PC adapter and play games on Steam. Good entry level headset, especially considering I got it for half price during a huge sale. I enjoyed what I’ve played so far and it didn’t cost a lot to find out if I can tolerate VR gaming.
My friends that have PS VR2 recommended me to not buy it, and just get Meta Quest 3 if I want to get a VR system.
Not a Meta fan in general so don’t want to buy their product, but will look at their next revision (rumoured to be coming next year) and then decide.
Or meta just doesn’t want to give that one good game to a competitor anymore XD
Beat Saber is not now, and never was, a Meta exclusive. 🤨
But I can be ✨
Happy Cake Day!
Seeing lots of cakes these days 😀
Well if you’re looking for cake you’re gonna see some 😏
Heh, I think it’s just because this is around the time the mass reddit exodus happened, so lots of people signed up in these dates, meaning lots of cake days!
Yep XD i’ve been really enjoying lemmy since leaving reddit. :)
Everyone that tries VR fails. And yet tomorrow there will be another.
Beat saber was pretty successful though? The game this article is about?
Beat Saber is a game, not a headset.
