Anti-trans bills are failing in places like Montana, because our trans legislators are real people (not made-up perverts) who are able to articulate how these bills affect them, as real people, to their colleages on both sides of the aisle.
Zooey Zephyr made such an incredible case last year when she talked about the impact on parents rights if she was no longer able to walk her child to school. Because, yes, she’s a transgender woman, but she’s a loving parent who is deeply involved in her child’s life. In fact, she had introduced her child to her colleages during certain work events. So every one of those asshats who drove that bill forward understood they would be hurting more than the “buzz word” out-group if they voted for it.
Sometimes I wish I lived in her district just so I could vote for her, because nothing makes these Montana red hats madder than realizing they might lose freedoms and she capitalized so perfectly on that.
Sorry, little bit of ramble lol. I think I’m just having a good day and want to have some kind of hope despite the impenetrable dark clouds hanging over us
There are for sure bright spots, and Zooey Zephyr’s work is definitely one of them!
I do try to not drown in all the bad news, I’m just particularly upset about the closure of the trans clinic at the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital recently. So many kids depended on it, and we’re not even in a red state! The people who are supposed to step up are just immediately buckling when a stiff breeze blows.
We will get through this, because it’s not actually possible to stop trans people from existing. But not all of us will get through it. Decades ago I was a trans kid with zero support who tried to kill myself, and I’m basically only here by stupid luck. It’s gut wrenching that even the ‘safe’ areas are fine throwing kids into dealing with that rather than put up any resistance to MAGA.
And yeah, the irony of typing up such a dark comment immediately after saying I do try to focus on the bright spots isn’t lost on me, lol.
I went to my passport interview this morning and they made me X out the F on my application and write in M and initial it swear it was true or no passport. Despite my real id saying F and me presenting a legal state court document saying that my sex had changed.
I crossed my fingers and said yes and then after she took my money she told me it was likely to get rejected because of the gender mismatch.
so tired of these people.
she also stapled my original birth certificate which i thought was rude af!
🫂 I’m sorry you’re dealing with this BS. I hope it gets through in case you need it.
Also like, wasn’t there a freaking order from a federal judge saying passports had to be issued with the correct, updated gender for trans people and not your birth sex?! Did that get overruled or were they just in flagrant violation of the law? Neither would surprise me, shit just moves so fast nowadays I don’t know if I’m out of date.
thank you i appreciate the kindness.
That’s what I thought as well which is why i was trying to get it done. When i asked about that she just said it was like this ‘because of trump’. After telling her I wasn’t a man and didn’t want to swear that I was, she made it very clear she was not going to accept my application with an F on it. I was getting flustered at that point so i just submit to the ignominy. There was a big line of folks behind me.
I figured trying to get it fixed is better than not having one at all if an opportunity to leave comes up.
I live in one of the most queer cities in the country too I don’t think she was a transphobe just your average grumpy clerk.
“Just following orders.”
average grumpy vlerk
Not a transphobe a year ago. Now a pro transphobe!
left person peeps r WAAAAAAY too common. ;(
They claim trans issues are “not important enough” for the average person to care yet these stupid laws keep getting passed.
yeah, it’s like “we don’t mind you, but we will try to make your life as bad as possible!”

Very true :c
Trans people aren’t sensitive but a good majority of my trans friends back in the early 00’s were genuinely fucking crazy, never figured out what the correlation on that one was.
Good times though, one group, we would go traipsing around town until one of them got ridiculously hammered and got in a fight. Last I heard of that particular one, she got arrested for throwing a Molotov in someone’s yard for some reason
Aside from the PTSD someone else mentioned, the number one predictor of the development of a cluster b personality disorder is a childhood with a “consistently inconsistent pattern of invalidation.”
In layman’s terms, for most of this persons childhood there were both times where the child was validated and accepted, but at other times they were rejected / told that their lived experience was unimportant / fake. And that intermittent pattern kept occurring over most of their childhood. And that’s pretty much an exact description of a lot of trans kid’s childhoods.
There’s also a common argument that the invalidation is actually just a form of trauma, but personally I ascribe to the furthering of that train of thought that BPD is just a specific and particularly complicated form of PTSD.
In the end through you can’t deny that it often results in some people that take a lot more emotional energy to interact with than your average person, and that society often makes it really hard to budget our energy in ways that allow us to give it to them.
I don’t have a solution to that problem, at least not one I can explain in more than the next few paragraphs. I just hope pointing out that that’s what the problem is helps people reframe their frustrations in a way that’s more constructive.
I have tried working on !DIYMentalHealth@lemmy.dbzer0.com if anyone is interested in specific mental health tips, but I’m still in the process of… building the community I guess? I’m not much of a fighter so most of my contribution to a better tomorrow will probably be in helping the people who are good at that kind of thing stay healthier themselves.
That’s quite interesting, I’ve always enjoyed learning more about how humans think and why they think certain ways. I will say though this does make sense, though some of the kids who’s parents actually understood, (remember anyone young today, this was a drastically more “under the rug” thing back before 2015ish) and supported them, those were the most messed up ones. To be fair though, that’s probably just due to my town being an absolute anomaly.
We were known for being kinda… Weird, compared to the surrounding towns
Not to project too much onto your friends, but based around my own experiences of being a trans teen/young adult at the time it would not surprise me at all if the ‘fucking crazy’ was PTSD.
Not ragging on you for framing it like that or anything even if it was from PTSD; I have PTSD and can be fucking crazy sometimes too, lol. Growing up in the 80s and 90s while trans messed with a lot of heads, mine included.
strongly agree
‘Traipsing aroubd’
Do you mean walking? Walking around?
Absolutely not. We traipsed. Exclusively.
“Why are you
gehtrans?”Anyway, good luck to us all in these dark times.

Leagues already had rules on their own without the government getting involved. Now instead it’s outright bans being enforced by the state. The largest and loudest voices pushing for the government to do this have openly said they are doing this to attack trans rights in other areas. It’s not about sports
Bans that the only real way to enforce is subjecting children to genital inspections by the way. A lot of these bans as well from what I’ve seen take the form of “Allow parents to accuse kid of being trans,” usually in the form of “She doesn’t look girly enough,” to which the accused now basically has to prove they’re not trans. Which as stated generally has to be let an approved doctor poke at your bits until he’s satisfied you were born with the “correct” ones.
Im glad our children are so safe from abuse.
It was never about sports. How many of these people ever gave a single fuck about womens sports before, except to talk shit?
That’s a very good point, saved. trans haters are crap, and will seek any excuse.
Seriously, a few years ago the US national team, which had won the world cup pretty recently, had to practice on astroturf. The men’s national team, who were kind of a laughingstock, got real grass.
Whitecis femininity only matters to power when it can be used as a weapon against the marginalized.
Nobody asked.
