I hate how the article anthropomorphosizes the LLM output. Apparently journalists still don’t understand what the technology is.

Absolutely. Dedicating a large part of the article to what the AI wrote about how it came up with the number is just so dumb… Just because it first writes that it pulled it from a database and then writes that it really didn’t doesn’t mean it’s lying. It has no concept of deceit or truth. It has no concepts at all. It’s a fancy random number generator and people keep attributing human properties to it.

With the conversation going round in circles, Smethurst said he did not believe the chatbot and told it: “Just giving a random number to someone is an insane thing for an AI to do.”

This is just so weird… No, Smethurst, that’s exactly what chatbots do. It’s literally how they work.

Yeah, every thing they say is “horrifying” about this, and that they call “AI gone wrong” is just describing exactly how LLMs work and what they are designed to do.

Like of course the AI doesn’t have opinions on your actual writing - it cant! And of course it says whatever the user wants to hear, that’s literally just describing what an LLM does.

As much as I get frustrated with AI companies pushing this stuff so hard, if users bothered to understand even at the most basic level what they were using, we wouldn’t have these issues

I always find it. Hilarious when dumb fuck idiots use services like this and then have the gall to complain when they get ass fucked on privacy.

You did this to yourself, and no one should feel bad for you. You don’t like it? Stop using WhatsApp.

Oh, you’re not gonna do that? Then you’d fucking deserve what you get. You dumb stupid piece of shit.

I mean, I partly agree with you. But I think this is more of a regulatory responsibility than an individual one. WhatsApp essentially functions like a social network, and even if someone wants to leave this shithole, it often comes with social consequences. Governments should step in to enforce cross-platform compatibility so that people can switch services without losing contact with family and friends.

Wow, the AI hallucinated a random number and now they’re saying it “shared” another user’s number, who writes these articles
