My field is dominated by women but we have a few men. People are often escalated when they see me—I come in to cool things down and give strategies. Consistently, the people who pout, threaten, mutter under their breath, and act like they want to hit me are not the women. I’m sure it’s due to the lack of emotions.

    Please.

The person in the photo is weak not because he cries on TV, but because he entirely argues in bad faith, has little idea what he actually believes, and is fully engaged in a culture war, with little focus except fearmongering and resisting anything that might make the world somewhat lively in a crazed aspiration to “rebuild” western civilization.

This meme is sexist itself; I don’t care that the person in the photo is a hypocrite. It is petty to the point it essentially platforms the person depicted.

Please be part of a cultural movement. The news used to bring on people from outrageous movements to mock them and instead it simply promoted those groups to a wider audience. The news has somewhat learned and you can see how delicately the NYT tries to dismantle Yarvinism.

Please please don’t platform hateful people. I’m here to escape them.

!Reprieve@lemmy.zip is here for male-identifying persons to get away from this kind of hate and find a better place to connect with their fellows where just regular normal people can talk about shit without judgement and without the specter of dumbass made up sexist shit like Peterson spouts hanging over them.

Disappointed but not surprised to see the downvotes, apparently there are Peterson fans here.

Worse yet, there’s probably people that hate Peterson but love his tactics of just being the worst person ever in the “right way”, you know people that think misandry isn’t real.

Misandry exists and it’s a valid concern for a lot of men. To write it off and pretend it doesn’t is to feed more people into Peterson’s cult. That’s not to say that misogyny doesn’t exist either, not that it’s not as much of a problem. It’s not a competition on how much life sucks for a particular group of people. We’re all just trying to get through life however we can and everyone needs their own space. And so far 99% of men’s spaces are this sexist alpha male pigheaded bullshit. And everyone is so afraid of making another type because they’ll be labeled as more of the same. This is for just normal ass people who just need someone to talk to who understands what they’re going through. None of the Peterson bullshit. None of the misogyny. Just guys helping guys. And it’s telling that my first post saying “Peterson sucks” is very upvoted but my post saying “Peterson sucks, here’s an alternative for men that’s not sucky” is not

you dint go through the same struggles as a woman they did. and alot of it, especially social media comes from a place of misogyny(accusing women of misandry, and im a guy too. i only ever seen it use as a deflection tool from thier ownself why they cant get with women.

yes there are man-hating women out there, but im betting mysogynistic men far exceeds that.

Specifically, no one is comparing them except you. It’s okay for two groups of people to have shitty experiences at once. It’s not a competition or a fight, I don’t understand why people keep trying to insist on making it a “one vs the other” thing.

I didn’t claim misogyny didn’t exist, I explicitly confirmed it does. I didn’t say misandry was worse than misogyny, I said it wasn’t a competition between the two. Just because YOU don’t recognize it doesn’t mean that OTHER people don’t feel it’s effects. For you to come in and claim to tell other people that their experiences are invalid because you personally don’t believe in them is the height of narcissism

J.P. knows what he belies in! He just refuses to say openly! Like he refuses to say whether he is a christian, despite literally going on a show named Christian vs atheist as he is fully aware that they would rip several instances of assholes on his body! And I really really really don’t think that he has any plans of making anything of his viewers to achieve anything considering the ads he runs for his youtube videos

He is also weak for not staying composed while being broadcast on TV. Control of one’s emotions is a skill and takes strength. I’m not saying it’s wrong to be weak though, everyone has their moments.

A recent sociology study has suggested that men actually gossip more than women, particularly men over the age of 50.

and they gossip like mean girls, and not the good kind of gossip. i once followed some ytubers they had some woman on the channel and they were discussing gossiping and men gossip more than woman. i think its because men are likely to go on non-sensical rants, or incoherent thoughts.

Dude is corrupting impressionable young men the world over and there should be some charge for flooding these poor people with hate. Should not be able to just do this and be fine and dandy in his secure house where he wouldn’t come within spitting distance of any of his cult.

The guy is a pseudo-intellectual who became famous with your usual right wing stuff (society is collapsing, the wokes are destroying everything, we need to fight the neocultural marxists), and providing self-help tips for people to take responsibility for themselves etc.

That second part is important because when sufficiently pushed, a lot of his fans will say that they just like his self-help stuff because it helped them go through some periods, become better etc. But it’s rarely just that, most of his fans go on to watch his talks and take his words seriously since he earned some credance with them with the self-help tips.

And then this supposedly highly intelligent professor goes on to provide some stability to this insane world by saying things like (off the top of my head): Bill C-16 will make the state send people to prison for using the wrong pronouns, but he will resist and go on a hunger strike when that happens! Women and men cannot work together in the same teams! Women are hypocrites if they complain about sexual harassment while wearing makeup! Hitler’s views were guided by the crowds attending his speeches, he just adapted to what they wanted to hear! Climate change models are faulty apriori because you cannot model everything, etc etc.

Then, as others already mentioned, he went to Russia to get into an induced coma to break his addiction.

He’s presenting himself and being presented as a good father figure, an accomplished academic, a voice of reason in a world gone insane, whereas he is just plain nuts. And his base is primarily vulnerable young people who have nobody to turn to, and he uses that to make them into your everyday incels, misogynists and other right wing wierdos.

So you can see that when someone like that goes onto camera to cry for the 10th time, the initial reaction of others might not be sympathy.

It’s not “getting emotional about being a father figure”, whatever you mean by that.

It’s Jordan Peterson, a horrible human being. One of his main beliefs is that women should adopt traditional roles and men should lead, and he justifies that with vague things like saying that women score higher in negative emotions. So, it’s perfectly fair to dunk on him for losing control of his emotions in a video interview.

AFAIK he developed a crippling addiction to benzodiazepines and the cure was so intense that it actually seems to have driven him around the bend.

I know this from watching YouTube clips about his issues, but that’s a couple of years ago now

He’s always been awful (he got famous in Canada by making wild claims about bill C-16 when all it really did was add gender identity to the list of protected classes for the purposes of human rights legislation) but he definitely got worse after his trip to Russia.

He talks a lot about personal responsibility but when it came time to kick his benzo addiction, instead of taking personal responsibility and dealing with the withdrawal symptoms, he tried to convince his doctors to put him into an induced coma. They refused because they didn’t think it was safe or ethical, so he flew to Russia where it’s easier to find doctors who are less picky about safety and ethics. I’m convinced the coma gave him brain damage because he’s been way more unhinged ever since.

Or getting his way by brute force afforded to him by wealth furthered his belief he knows better than experts. So much for those hypocritic oath people (more like hypocritic woke people). The people with no ethics who will do whatever I tell them for money are the true intellectuals.
